Methods of Drainage Systems
Drainage is the process of draining the water from soaked land, through pipes, tunnels, canals, ditches and trenches. The patterns formed by streams, rivers and lakes are called as natural drainage systems. Implementation of proper drainage systems can prevent the municipal plus the rural areas from flooding. Geosynthtics are frequently used to improve performance and extend the life of drainage systems. Drainage or subsurface drainage, agricultural hydraulics, is the combination of natural and artificial systems that makes possible deep disposal of excess land. A well-drained soil occurs naturally when the water table is at proper depth and the porosity is such as which will not slow down the percolation of excess water.
There are various types of drainage systems present for natural resources. Dendritic drainage system is the most common form of drainage system in which, many contributing streams joined together into the tributaries to form larger rivers. Dendritic system forms V- shaped valley. As a result of that the rock will become non porous. Parallel drainage system is the type of drainage system in which the pattern caused by rivers resulting in steep slopes. Because of the steep slopes, all the streams flow in the same direction. The streams of this type are swift, straight and consist of very few tributaries.
Trellis is a type of drainage system, which is similar to that of a common garden trellis. When the river flows along a valley, smaller tributaries feeds into it from the steep slopes on the sides of the mountains. These tributaries join the river at about 90 degrees angle. This appears like the drainage system and is the characteristic of the folded mountains pattern. Rectangular drainages develop on rocks, which are approximately uniform resistance to erosion but usually have two directions of joining at right angles. Gradually the streams develop along these joints and are comparatively less resistant to erosion than the bulk rock. Further this results in, joining of the streams with riverbed at right angle. The streams radiate is outwards from a central high point in the radial drainage system. The structure of the radial drainage system is like volcanoes. The radial drainage may lead a combination of radial and annular patterns. In Deranged drainage system, there is no coherent pattern to the rivers and lakes. This type of drainage systems are found in the area where there has been much geological disruption occurred.
Domestic drainage systems designed to carry wastewater from a land to the main sewage network. Depending upon the age of the property, domestic drainage systems are classed in 2 different types, a single-stack and a Two-pipe system. A Two pipe drainage systems were found in the houses built before late 1950s. It consists of the large diameter vertical soil pipe, which leads directly to the sewage network, and often runs down the outside wall of a property of all any new houses that are built with a single-stack drainage system. Unlike the two-pipe system, a large bore pipe often incorporated into the internal framework of a property. For cleaning the drainage systems the chemical unblockers are the good options but pumps or plungers can be used to clean the drainage systems.
